​​​​​​​KNK: Halabja massacre is still fresh in the minds of our people

The Executive Council of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) issued a statement, coinciding with the 34th anniversary of the Halabja massacre.

The statement stated that "the month of March for the Kurdish people is full of tragedies, struggle and uprising, in terms of its content and the events that occurred during it, and one of the tragedies that the Kurdish people suffered during this month is March 16, 1988, the day of the genocide committed against the Kurdish people in Halabja in Southern Kurdistan, and the killing of more than 5,000 people, including children, women and the elderly in the city of Halabja, by Saddam Hussein's fascist dictatorial regime, with chemical weapons.

This painful massacre is still in the hearts and memory of the Kurdish people, and it has not been forgotten and will never be forgotten, and many massacres and genocides similar to the Halabja massacre were carried out against the Kurdish people by the colonial, fascist and dictatorial states in the four parts of Kurdistan.

He added: "Saddam Hussein's fascist regime is not the only one who committed massacres like Halabja. Throughout its history, since a hundred years of its rule, the fascist Turkish state has committed numerous massacres and genocides with chemical weapons against the Kurdish people, and the fascist Turkish state continues to use chemical weapons against the Kurds and civilians in a way. We recall that the Turkish state has used and is still using chemical weapons dozens of times, since the past two years, against the fighters of the Kurdistan Liberation Movement and civilians in Southern Kurdistan.

In its statement, the Kurdistan National Congress called on "international institutions, particularly the United Nations, the European Union and the International Court of Justice to recognize the Halabja massacre as genocide." it ended its statement by saying: "The Kurdish people will not forget the Halabja massacre, and it will always remain in the memory and soul of every Kurdish individual. May the souls of the Halabja martyrs rest in peace."
