Karayilan: Kobani liberated due to resistance of our heroes in a fierce street war

In the fourth part of his interview with the (Yeni Ozgur Politika), a member of the LC of (PKK) and commander of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) Murat Karayilan spoke about the resistance in liberation of Kobani.

 You had said in one of the previous interviews that one of the personalities who played a major role in the resistance is the martyr Kelhat Gabar. What do you say about his heading to Kobani and impact on the Kobani war?

 Kalhat was the Commander of the Judi region, where he was sent to his desire to join the Kobani resistance, and also suggested to participate in the resistance again, I asked him to take it easy, he was a brave comrade in many combat operations in Botan and had high combat experience, but as we said when the situation in Kobani became critical. The ISIS terrorist organization was advancing every day, so we began to closely monitor the situation on a daily basis, especially until 5-6-7 October, as ISIS terrorist was in continuous progress, but we proved to the comrades that if we stopped  ISIS’s attack and progress will inevitably be defeated, and they have a chance to launch a counterattack on it. The comrades noticed the progress of ISIS, but the comrades continued the resistance, and were able to break ISIS terrorist attacks with their operations.

 In this regard I will evaluate his role, but before that I must mention briefly the resistance under the leadership of Comrade Destina who comes from Southern Kurdistan, she moved from Botan to Kobani, a group of eight comrades was under her command, who was defending a building of 5-6 floors, she showed great resistance, the terrorist organization ISIS managed to reach the basement floor of the building, but they were unable to get the comrades out so they loaded a large amount of  the explosives were on a truck and blew up the truck there, the explosion was as strong which resulted in the complete destruction of the building and the martyrdom of our comrades there, but the comrades did not allow  the enemy seize the area, and prevented its advance, and our forces were able to counter the attacks of ISIS terrorist on other fronts by following a strong defense system and launching attacks.

 How did the coalition join the operation?

 During that period, US President Barack Obama and the heads of several countries were watching the resistance of Kobani. Obama contacted Erdogan and said that the fighters in Kobani are still being established and if they obtain weapons and ammunition, this resistance will be escalated.  Therefore, they must be supported day by day, but Erdogan used to say to those who fight there, they are not the People’s Protection Units (YPG), but rather they are from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), and that “the PKK is a terrorist organization more dangerous than the terrorist organization ISIS, and it will not accept their support.

 That is, according to what was clarified, Erdogan opposed the passage of the HPG comrades to Kobani.

 As I said, Erdogan planned to turn Kobani into a graveyard for the PKK, so he showed such a stance against Obama, and told his forces to turn a blind eye to them and let them go to Kobani to die there, and he planned a big massacre, as it was supposed to hold a meeting in Imrali, on the basis of a halt  shooting and finding a solution, and the operation was developed and called Operation Solution, as a tactical application of private war, but it turned out later that the arrival of the PKK forces in Kobani at that time was a unique opportunity for them, so they wanted to bring all the comrades to Kobani to be liquidated there, and this indicates. However, the terrorist ISIS is part of a specific plan.

 But despite Erdogan's efforts, the coalition announced that it would intervene...?

 Although Erdogan expressed this position to Obama, Obama did not believe him because he saw with his own eyes, and said that “whatever it is, they are resisting against ISIS terrorist while no one has stood up to ISIS terrorist, supporting this resistance is in the interest of the United States.”  More, and on this basis, the Global Coalition forces led by the United States decided to support the resistance in Kobani on October 16, and later began air strikes against the terrorist ISIS.

 What is the impact of air attacks on the Kobani resistance?

 First of all, it should be noted that until that time, the resistance in Kobani had liberated part of the grip of the terrorist Daesh, and they were at the site of the attack. The United States and the coalition forces saw this, and watched their progress day after day in the pictures taken by the drones, until the noose narrowed.  On the terrorist Daesh in Kobani, after that they decided to provide support to the resistance, they made the decision to support, but how will it be implemented?  Because they do not have any relations with the People's Protection Units, there  had been a comrade in Sulaymaniyah, a representative of the People's Protection Units (YPG), one of the leaders of the US Special Forces contacted him through the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan YNK,  On the other hand, the comrade contacted the leaders of the People’s Protection Units in Kobani and asked them to identify points to be struck, and they struck some points that our forces had identified behind the front, due to the lack of prior coordination between them, it was possible to strike our forces as well, and such a mistake happened twice, when the coalition warplanes bombed our forces twice by mistake, and to avoid such mistakes, they used to say you can shoot at a distance of several meters from those buildings, and the comrades were informing the American forces about this, they undoubtedly played an effective role, but the victory of the resistance in Kobani was thanks to the resistance shown by our forces, after a while  GPS devices to the leaders of the People's Protection Units and our comrades there, where the People's Protection Units gave their coordinates in the same way to the comrades and they were locating the target in the same way, so Kobani did not witness a violent bombing thanks to these coordinates, and thus the target was bombed  strictly speaking, if there were no such thing, the city of Kobani would not have been liberated.

 Of course, there was an effect of the attacks, but in fact, after a while, that is, after the liberation of Kobani, some American military experts played an active role in the campaign of Manbij, Tabqa and Raqqa, but the Kobani resistance was more based on resistance. The international coalition decided late to strike the terrorist ISIS there for the reasons I mentioned.

 Can we say that man is more effective in war than technology...?

 Despite the terrorist Daesh’s possession of various tanks and armored vehicles, it can be said that “the Kobani resistance was a war of will between the terrorist Daesh and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, and it resulted in the defeat of the terrorist organization Daesh before the will and ideology of the PKK. This is what happened in Kobani, the international forces did not play any effective role in it, the war raged from October until November 20-25, and the fate of the war was linked to the events of this period, our forces were able to reach the squares and merge with the People’s Protection Units, and stopped the attacks of the terrorist organization ISIS, which started with a counterattack, and managed to restore all the areas that were in the grip of the terrorist Daesh, and the expansion of the liberated areas and thus entering them into the stage of defeat. This event was the most important link in the resistance, and the will and guerrilla spirit of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) triumphed over the mentality of the terrorist organization Daesh.  This is what happened during that period. Our forces were able to reach the squares and merge with the People’s Protection Units, and they stopped the attacks of the terrorist organization ISIS. The resistance of the PKK, which was mixed with the spirit of sacrifice and redemption, will and determination, served as a wall that prevented the achievement of the goals of ISIS mercenaries, but rather was overthrown.

 Therefore, the Kobani resistance has a great impact on this epic resistance of the People’s Protection Units and the Peoples' Defense Forces, in addition to the valiant resistance of the Free Women’s Units Star in the person of the martyr Kalan, Zahra, and with the commando operations carried out by Zozan and Revan Kobani, the resistance of the Women’s Protection Units reached the highest levels and showed the world  their heroic stances,

 In short, the will of the People's Protection Units, the Women's Protection Units, the People’s Defense Forces, and the Women's Free Star units gave the Kobani resistance valuable meanings, in a clear picture of what human art and strength can provide, because it was resistance with individual weapons, their heart full of courage, valor and spirit of sacrifice, they were able to liberate Kobani and eliminate the terrorist ISIS.

 You mentioned that you were talking with the leadership and the fighters who were fighting in Kobani.  Were you running the war?

 No, of course, we were not the ones running the war. Those who ran the war were the leaders in Kobani, where this leadership consisted mainly of comrades in the People’s Protection Units, because they are the ones who know the city and the details of the area more, but our comrades from the Popular Defense Forces participated. we presented advice to our comrades, on how to respond to the attacks of the terrorist organization ISIS.

 The victory in the Kobani resistance was of great importance to all our people, as the war reached a very important strategic stage for us as well as for the attacking forces. The logic of ISIS terrorist never  withdraw their forces, so it was not easy to get them out of Kobani, especially in the beginning they did not retreat, and thus the guerrilla war broke out in Kobani.

 Nothing raises our questions as much as the guerrilla forces do not use phones, the Internet and social media, you said they spoke on the phone, was this situation not a problem for you?

 No, at that time I did not encounter any real problem, but Turkish intelligence recorded all my conversations at the time with the leaders in Kobani and submitted the file to the United States of America, where they said “the war there is not run by the People’s Protection Units (YPG), but rather by the HPG;  Look, it's run by Karayilan himself, and these audio recordings prove it.

 The American command also asked the representative of the People’s Protection Units in the city of Sulaymaniyah about this matter. I received this information in a telephone conversation with the leadership of the YPG in Kobani. After providing this information, I asked a friend of mine about his whereabouts, and he answered my question that he is near the village of Koral, and I told him  Do you go to Koral Village, I want to say hello to its people, he answered me, Well, after half an hour he spoke to me again and said I am now in the village and most of its people are present, then I called many of the villagers and also opened the phone and spoke with all the people  There, where the people there shared their opinion with me, they all knew me well, it was an emotional situation after which I said to the comrade there, let the Turkish intelligence MÎT and the CIA that are listening to us now know this, that my relationship with you is a social kinship relationship, where I share my experiences. The military through my social relations with you, I want your support, and that is why no one will be able to utter a word, those who are now listening to us, let us add this conversation to the file, I think the CIA and other intelligence institutions as well. They hear us now, because the Turkish occupation files on this issue will not achieve any result. In short, the Kobani issue has become an international issue. In the same context, a group of Peshmerga came to Kobani from Southern Kurdistan as well.
