Syriac Cultural Association: General alarm against Turkish occupier must be declared

Hanna Soumi stressed the necessity of declaring a general alarm against the Turkish occupier, and said, "The Turkish strategy now is to swallow more Syrian lands, to swallow all of Syria and our areas rich in wealth."

The Turkish occupation army has recently intensified its attacks against the areas of north and east Syria, and in this context, Official of the Syriac Cultural Association in Syria _ Qamishlo Branch, Hanna Soumi, confirmed that the Turkish occupation state has never stopped its attacks against the areas of north and east Syria. He added, "All the areas from al-Shahba to Tel Abyad / Girê Spî to the M4 international road to Tel Tamr district are shelled on a daily basis."

He said, "Erdogan took advantage of the events witnessed in Afghanistan which caught the attention of the entire world, and intensified his attacks on the areas of north and east Syria."

He said, "Turkey is trying to take America's pulse after Biden takeover, and is waiting for whether America would respond to these attacks or not, but unfortunately America has not moved so far despite the ceasefire agreement, and the commitment of the Syriac Military Council in Tel Tamr to this agreement."

Soumi stressed that the silence of both Russia and America, the guarantors of the two cease-fire agreements concluded after the Turkish attacks on the areas of north and east Syria on October 9, 2019, stems from common interests with the Turkish occupation state.

Soumi mentioned the agreement concluded between Turkey and Russia during the war in Nagor Karabakh, and the American silence about it, in addition to the barter agreement that took place between Russia and Turkey regarding Afrin, and said, "All these agreements are made at the expense of the freedom of the indigenous peoples in the region from Kurds, Syriacs and Yazidis."

He said, "This silence does not serve the peoples of the region. Now, no Syriac has remained in the city of Ras al-Ain / Serêkaniyê, and the percentage of Kurds in it has decreased after its occupation. If this thing continues, there would be more blood, more displacement, more demographic change, and more terrorism against our people in the region."

Unity is necessary to expel the occupier

Soumi stressed the need for the peoples of the region to unite their ranks to deter the Turkish attacks, and said, "Previously, the people of the region united; Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, Circassians, Armenians, Turkmen, Yazidis, Muslims and Christians, and we expelled the mercenary groups from Ras al-Ain / Serêkaniyê in 2012, and then we expelled ISIS from all areas of north and east Syria, now a similar and more powerful unification must be formed so that we can drive out this occupier and its mercenaries."

Hanna Soumi noted that everyone in north and east Syria must resist against the Turkish occupation state "because Erdogan's thought and ISIS's thought are two sides of the same coin, and this thought cannot be applied to the components of north and east Syria who are the owners of great civilizations such as the Sumerian civilization, Akkad, Babylon, Media and Aram ...etc."

Soumi stressed the need to declare a general mobilization against the Turkish occupier, and said, "The Turkish strategy now is to swallow more Syrian lands, and to swallow all of Syria and our areas rich in wealth."
