On morning of the August 4, 2014, the Peoples ' and Women Protection Units ( YPG, YPJ) have been able to arrive  Mount Şingal, following a full night of preparation for fighting the ISIS mercenaries who committed the atrocities against Yazidis.

Zaghros Judy, a Commander of the YPG, says that the danger to Şingal became clear after the fall of Mosul, and for more than once they tried to protect Şingal and warn of the gravity of the situation, but the Kurdistan Democratic Forces (KDP) did not open the way for them, as they were responsible for protecting the region."

Judy, she pointed out that they headed to the region after 3 August, and cut the border to prevent the people from being massacred and managed to open a security corridor towards Rojava (Syria's lands of the kurds in the northeast) " unfortunately, thousands were killed and kidnapped by the ISIS; We could not prevent that before we get there.

Guerillas were the first to arrive to Şingal

Zagros confirmed that they arrived in Şengal after violent battles with ISIS mercenaries who were trying to reach those stuck in Mount Şengal, and the Guerilla forces were the first that arrived from the mountains of Kurdistan in a short time.

He said, given the gravity of the situation and the need to reach Şengal quickly, we made great sacrifices.

In Şengal, a joint front was established to fight in coordination with the guerrillas, and after the people were liberated, plans were put in place to liberate the areas controlled by ISIS. Later, the Şengal Resistance Units were formed to protect it.

whoever did not protect Şengal in 2014 will not be able to protect them now either

Zagros Judy added that as soon as ISIS launched its attack on Şengal, the KDP abandoned Şengal as well as the Iraqi army did not do its duty, and now they want to come back, but the situation is different now. Youths of Şengal are organized in military force to protect it.

He continued, "Whoever did not protect Şengal in 2014 will not be able to protect him now either."

The people of Şengal are known for their steadfastness and resistance, but what happened forced them to retreat....

The leader of the People's Protection Units, said throughout history, the Yazidi community has known for its steadfastness in front of the many firmans they have been subjected to, but what happened in the last firman forced them to retreat and take refuge at the top of the mountain.

And all of this happened because their heavy weapons were taken by the Peshmerga.

ISIS brutality and unforgettable tragedy

The head of the YPG's media center in charge, Siamand Ali, was among those who arrived Şengal at the beginning of the Firman and ISIS attacks.

Ali referred to the brutality of ISIS and to the tragedies it left in Şengal, and continued, saying: When we reached the beginning of the mountain Şengal and on the way the children, the old women, all were in a deplorable condition, thirst threatened their lives, dozens of injured were waiting for treatment.

Many people could not bear that and committed suicide on the mount Sinjar, throwing themselves from high places. The brutality of those painful scenes stuck in the minds of those who witnessed it.

The YPG General Command gave instructions to reach Şengal

Regarding the beginning of their journey to Şengal and the decision to resist ISIS and protect the Şengal, Ali said: With news coming from Şengal, the General Command of the People's Protection Units issued instructions, that all groups close to Şengal, i.e. from Derik, to Jal Agha to head towards the mountain for opening a humanitarian corridor between Şengal and Rojava.

Ali indicated that at that time they were engaged in a resistance against ISIS mercenaries in the Tel Koçber area, and in the early morning of August 4, our fighters entered Başûr Kurdistan, opening a 30-40 km corridor near Jazaa for the survivors to reach Rojava.

Siamand Ali said in Mount Şengal, small groups of our fighters, in coordination with the Peoples' Defense Forces, were able to establish a defensive ring around the survivors, and repel all ISIS attacks that tried to reach Mount Şengal, and thus, with that heroism and the spirit of redemption, they saved nearly 150 thousand people of killing.

Rojava announced the general alarm

The media official of the People's Protection Units, the people of Rojava, said that despite their area being subjected to major attacks by ISIS mercenaries, they insisted on supporting their forces, which were carrying out their historical duty towards the people of Şengal."

He stressed that thousands of civilian cars headed towards the beginning of the humanitarian corridor in Rojava to receive the survivors.

YPG fought alongside Şengal's resistance units and left protection duties to them

Siamand Ali said on August 4, in Şengal, the resistance units of Şengal and the YPG fought alongside each other for nearly a year and a half, all the forces that worked to protect Şengal, were showing heroic resistance.

This continued until November 13, 2015, the day of the announcement of the complete liberation of the city of Şengal from ISIS mercenaries, when the People's Protection Units announced that it had carried out its mission and historical duty in Şengal to the fullest and that the Şengal Resistance Units became ready to assume the responsibility of protecting Şengal and its people in the face of all attacks.
