Zuleikha Abdi confirms that Leyla Guven's arrest shows Turkey's anti-peace intentions

The deputy head of the Future Syria Party Council in the city of Raqqa, Zuleikha Abdi, explained that the arrest of the struggler Leyla Guven by the Turkish authorities aims to undermine any hope for a democratic and peaceful solution to the Kurdish issue.

Zuleikha Abdi denounced the Turkish authorities' approval of the prison sentence against the parliamentarian Leyla Guven, describing it as a" crime against all humanity."

On the 21^st of December of last year, a Turkish court in Amed sentenced the parliamentarian Leyla Guven to 22 years and 3 months in prison.

Zuleikha Abdi said in an interview with our agency that Leyla Guven went on a hunger strike inside Turkish prisons, and hundreds of hunger strikers joined it to announce to the whole world that resistance is the successful language without resorting to violence.

She added: "Turkey has arrested the struggler Leyla Guven to extinguish the flame of freedom and kill the spirit of peace for the struggler and parliamentarian, Leyla Guven, who adheres to her ideas and principles, to prove to the tyrant Erdogan that her will is stronger than his fascist policy."

Zuleikha Abdi continued her speech by saying: "During her hunger strike, the struggler Leyla Guven showed great resistance, she and her comrades on hunger strike in Turkish prisons sent a message to the whole world that their resistance is to achieve freedom and peace."

She stressed that "women's will has not been broken, rather they win in the end," and continued: "The resistance of Leyla Guven called for the establishment of communication and peace among peoples, and united the pain and thoughts of the world's women."

Zuleikha Abdi added: "Leyla Guven is a struggling woman and we trust her abilities. She brings political ideas and peaceful solutions, and thus impacted on women in the regions of north and east Syria."

Zuleikha Abdi stressed that "Turkey is afraid of women's political activity, and the progress, development that they achieve, so it always targets free struggling women."

she stated that: "The Turkish state pursues a policy of extermination against women activists and politicians, and does not want women to be powerful or have will and decisions." She added: "It seeks to silence the democratic right voice in the region."

Zuleikha Abdi concluded by saying: "We must not forget the calls of Leyla Khaled and many struggling women to support Leyla Guven who has illuminated the path of every woman yearning for freedom and free thought."

It is worth mentioning that the Turkish authorities had arrested the parliamentarian Leyla Guven in June 2019 as well, after the Turkish parliament revoked her immunity, for her to declare on November 8, 2019 a hunger strike that lasted for 200 days, and hundreds of political detainees in Turkish prisons, in addition to dozens of activists around the world joined it.
