US official: joint agreements between Washington and Khartoum

A senior American government official in Washington told Sky News Arabia that the American administration, represented by the Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs, is holding talks with the Sudanese government through diplomatic and military representatives, who arrived in Khartoum in the past hours, in order to sign joint security and military agreements between the two countries.

The official said, "These agreements include providing arms contracts to the Sudanese army, which may be part of the facilitated arms sales in the short term, in addition to training programs that include visiting Sudanese officers to the United States and sending American trainers to Sudan."

The official explained that a new phase of security and military coordination has begun, and it will include intelligence cooperation in the field of combating terrorism, especially groups of extremist violence in the surrounding African region, especially the Horn of Africa.

The official did not rule out that the Sudanese government would allow American forces to use military facilities inside Sudanese territory if needed.
