The Iranian Radio and Television said that an explosion caused by a gas leak resulted in two deaths.

A video clip from the site of the explosion in the city of Ahvaz, the center of Khuzestan Province, showed rescue teams searching for survivors in the rubble of a two-story apartment building located near one of the city's markets.

This blast comes as part of a series of mysterious bombings in Iran in recent months, targeting nuclear sites and facilities and power stations as well as training camps for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

Among the most prominent incidents in Iran was an explosion in a health center in Tehran in late June, killing 19 people.

Last August, Iran announced that an "accident" caused the destruction of a building under construction near the Natanz nuclear power plant, causing severe damage to the facility, to the point that it would slow down the development and production of centrifuges in the medium term.
