Macron meets with Iraqi officials; no intention to visit Hewler

On Wednesday, the Baghdad Palace has hosted a meeting between the three presidencies and French President Emmanuel Macron, who arrived in Iraq earlier in the day.

According to the official Iraqi News Agency, President Barham Salih received his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron at Baghdad Palace.

According to the agency, "a joint meeting brings together the three presidencies in the Baghdad Palace with the French president," noting at the same time that "Macron's agenda does not include Hewler's visit."

The representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Başur in Baghdad, Bakhtiar Haji, announced, on Wednesday, that the President of the region, Nechirvan Barzani, will meet with French President Emmanuel Macron in the Iraqi capital.

Haji said in an interview with government media, "The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, is visiting Baghdad today, to meet with the French President, after it was not possible to visit Erbil due to lack of time."

French President Macron arrived in Baghdad this morning from Lebanon, to launch the initiative to "support sovereignty" in cooperation with the United Nations, according to what he announced during a press conference yesterday evening in Beirut.
