Al-Sisi to Netanyahu: We support steps to bring peace to the region

The Egyptian Presidency said on its account on social media that al-Sisi received a phone call from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during which they discussed developments in the regional arena.

"The President affirmed Egypt's support for any steps that would bring peace to the region, in a way that preserves the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, allows for the establishment of their independent state and provides Israeli security," the presidency said, "appreciating the announcement of the UAE-Israeli agreement under the auspices of the United States as a step in this direction."

"Mr. President also stressed the importance of the Israeli side not taking unilateral measures that undermine the chances for peace, especially refraining from annexing Palestinian lands, with the aim of providing the space for concerted efforts between the various regional and international parties to move the current stalemate in the Palestinian issue, and push forward towards the resumption of negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, leading to a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue on the basis of a two-state solution according to international references, and achieving security, peace and prosperity for the peoples of the region.

According to the Presidency of the Republic, al-Sisi stressed the importance of adhering to the understandings of calm between the Palestinian and Israeli sides regarding the Gaza Strip, in light of Egypt's continuous efforts to reduce tension between the two sides.
