Timtek's spirit and goals are alive

Jurists in the Al-Jazira region stressed that life in the confinement of the Turkish state is non-existent due to the lack of its human rights conditions in accordance with general international rights standards, explaining that Abru Timtek was martyred, but is alive with her spirit and purpose.

On Thursday, the Kurdish lawyer Timtek lost her life in an Istanbul hospital after her health deteriorated in prison after 238 days of an open hunger strike. Human rights reports revealed that the martyred activist was tortured at the hands of Erdogan's regime.

In this context, human rights organizations in northern and eastern Syria, in coordination with the Research Center for the Protection of Women's Rights, issued a statement denouncing the oppressive crimes of the Turkish authorities against jurists and politicians.

The statement was read in front of the Social Justice Council headquarters in Qamishlo city by the lawyer Khadija Ibrahim and in the presence of representatives of the Center for Research and Protection of Women's Rights in Syria, the Lawyers Union on Al-Jazira, the Women's Council for Social Justice and the Council for Social Justice.

"At a time when the world is waiting for a breakthrough with the advent of the anniversary of the world peace, and in proportion to the organized terrorism practiced by the Turkish state in the region and in the world, the Turkish state is intensifying at home against the right to life, freedom and safety. Thought, conscience, movement, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to protect private life, the right to justice and the prevention of discrimination, and all civil, political, social, cultural and economic rights safeguarded in general international law, especially the two International Covenants of Rights for the year 1966 and their two protocols of 1977.

Life under the Turkish state is non-existent

The statement added, "Among the manifestations of this war, the arrest of lawyers and the overthrow of their platforms. We have the assassination of lawyer Taher Alji in Sur Amed, the arrest and imprisonment of lawyer Salah El-Din Demirtaş and the forcible disappearance of lawyer Timtek, the biggest evidence of that."

And the statement added, "Lawyer Timtek - the knight of truth and justice - lost her life, after a hunger strike that lasted 238 days. She did not take such a decision except for her conviction that life is rights, rights are life, and that life in the confinement of the Turkish state is non-existent due to the lack of its human rights conditions according to general international rights standards, as it did not succumb to the lifestyle that the prevailing dictator had accepted with the legacy of his extinct forefathers and their false rituals, who had decimated biology, played the laws of nature, separated the breastfeeding woman and her infant, and trampled everything that is toxic and harmful in all that is useful..

It is true that lawyer Timtek has lost her life, but her pure spirit is purity of her goals alive, and as it influenced, she flies into the pillars of truth and justice and until she lights the path of behavior for them, so that she is straightforward with her spirit and like her souls who are heroes of the free word and hands that do not tremble, natural rights and positivism in same time".

The mere arrest of Timtek constitutes a war crime according to international public law standards

The statement also stated, "The mere arrest of the Kurdish knight, lawyer Timtek, regardless of this tragic arrest, constitutes a war crime according to the standards of general international law, especially the four Geneva Conventions of 1949, as it is a crime against women, which is tantamount to a mass killing of them." The International Criminal Court in The Hague has the mandate and jurisdiction to look into this crime that has fulfilled all its elements, this crime that the free world must wake up to its impact on the soul and its resonance on the horizons, sooner rather than later, to break the silence of its organizations that seem it takes the rocks of Turkish despotism as its cushions.

Kurdish lawyer was arrested with her fellow Arab lawyer, Itag Onsal, in September 2017, and they went on hunger strike since February 5, 2020, and after 238 days, she passed away while lawyer Itag Onsal is still alive and in his strike is still continuing.

We will make their just cause a cause for global public opinion

"The decision to strike was a protest against the fabricated charges, torture and cruel and inhuman treatment and the refusal of the Turkish authorities to retry the trial with a fair trial after the decision of the Kurdish lawyer was sentenced to 13 years and 6 months imprisonment, and lawyer Aitag Onsal sentenced to 10 years and 6 years imprisonment," the statement concluded. Months at a time when human rights reports confirmed the torture and the loss of lawyer 43 kg of weight, the inability to continue life and the inevitability of her release due to the deterioration of her health, which did not constitute a humanitarian justification for her release.

We, members of human rights institutions in northern and eastern Syria, pledge to our fellow lawyers, who are arbitrarily detained in the prisons of the Turkish state, to defend them by all legal and human rights means and to make their just cause an issue for the international public opinion.
