France demanded Iran to not respond to Soleimani killing

Le Drian said in a statement to BFM French T.V, “It is necessary for Iran to refrain from response and escalation,” stressing that “There is still a way for diplomacy.”

Le Drian said, “I found out in all of my conversations that no one wants war,” holding the possibilities for the dangerous escalation between Tehran and Washington the bad choices by all sides.

Le Drian added that any retaliatory strikes against the United States would threaten the coalition's ability to counter ISIS’ threats in Iraq and Syria, stressing that countering ISIS must have remained a priority in the region.

Prior to a meeting of European Union foreign ministers that will discuss this week the recent crisis between Iran and the United States, the French foreign minister called on Tehran to refrain from taking further steps to strike the nuclear agreement held with the major powers in 2015 that had aimed at curbing the nuclear activities of the Islamic Republic.

Le Drian said that Paris would decide in the coming days its decision to renew the sanctions on Iran for violating the nuclear agreement after months of attempts to preserve it despite Trump's abandonment of it.

The United States of America announced the killing of the commander of al-Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards on January 3^rd in an attack carried out by a drone, while Iran described the attack as the state’s terrorism.
