Kongra Star: Sakina Jansiz was icon for struggling woman

In conjunction with the seventh anniversary of the martyrdom of the struggler Sakina Jansiz and her companions Leila Chailmaz and Fidan Dogan who were assassinated in the French capital, Paris, on January 9, 2013, the Kongra Star of al-Jazeera and the Euphrates regions, in addition to Aleppo city organized a series of events in which hundreds of people participated.

QAMISHLO

On Tuesday, the Kongra Star held a meeting under the slogan “With the Spirit of Sakina and Hevrin’s Resistance, We Will Destroy Fascism and Occupation” at Mohammed Sheikho Theater Hall for Culture and Art in Qamishlo.

The theater hall was decorated with the pictures of the martyr Sakina and her comrades, and the flags of the Kongra Star. In addition, dozens of Qamishlo city citizens and members of the civil society institutions, political parties, Social Protection Forces and the Syrian Revolutionary Youth Union participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, the administrative member at the Kongra Star Adar Qamishlo spoke about the life of the struggler Sakina Jansiz, and made clear that the life of the martyr Sakina was full of struggle and resistance against the Turkish fascist mentality and the repressive authoritarian regimes. She indicated that Sakina played an effective role to consolidate and deepen the concept of women's freedom.

Adar pointed out that the struggler was one of the first women to defend women's rights at a time when women used to be oppressed. She noted that Sakina Jansiz, with her struggle, had become an icon for the struggling woman.

The meeting ended with a television show that included videos from the lives of the three militants, Sakina Jansiz, Leila Chailmaz and Fidan Dogan.

ALEPPO

In Sheikh Maksoud neighborhood of Aleppo city, the Kongra Star organized a meeting attended by hundreds of women and representatives of political parties in al-Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maksoud neighborhoods.

After holding a minute of silence, the administrator in Kongra Star Coordination Helen Yakto spoke and condemned the massacre committed by the Turkish intelligence against the three militants.

Helen added, “The resistance shown by women in the face of the policy of male mentality instills terror among the authoritarian regimes because the freedom of women means the end of the dictatorial regimes; therefore, the leading women are the most vulnerable, and this is what we saw by targeting the martyr Hevrin Khalaf and the mutilation of the corpses of YPJ fighters.”

The meeting concluded with a short film about the life and struggle of the martyr Sakina Jansiz and her comrades.

KOBANÊ

The Kongra Star in Kobanê canton organized a series of events coinciding with the seventh anniversary of the martyrdom of the three leading women, Sakina Jansiz, Leila Chailmaz and Fidan Dogan.

The first events were organized by the Kongra Star in the two districts of Sareen and al-Qenaya in Kobanê canton, as two meetings were organized in both districts and attended by dozens of residents.

In Sareen district, the meeting was held at the Cultural Center’s hall, during which the administrator at the Women Science Center Rohlat Aref gave a speech in which she spoke about the struggling path of the three Kurdish strugglers, and said that targeting the martyrs Fidan, Leila and Sakina Jansiz was a target of the women diplomatic movement to prevent women from getting rid of slavery and from reaching to the real participation in all fields of life.

Rohlat Aref added, "People witness a sensitive transition period after the end of the term of the old international agreements such as Lausanne, Sykes-Picot and others, and all peoples must prove their existence in this crucial stage."

She noted , “Although we have passed many stages, women are still a target for the Turkish enemy, and what is happening in Syria is the best evidence of targeting women's activities which aim at liberating the women of the region from the contradictory mentalities.”

She also touched at the meeting on the recent events taking place in the Middle East, and said, “Washington is dealing strictly against its enemies with the start of the new phase in order to be able to prove its capabilities in the agreements that may be held later.”
