Since the outbreak of the revolution in northern and eastern Syria, women have taken their place in all arenas, whether civil, political, diplomatic or military, to be at the forefront of society in the arenas of struggle, and in 2019 they achieved many victories and were at the forefront of Women's Protection Units, where ISIS was defeated from all northern and eastern regions of Syria, and this has had a positive impact on all societies.

One leader of the Women’s Protection Units, Roj Dêrsim evaluated the role of the Women’s Protection Units, the accomplishments they achieved during the year 2019, as well as the proportion of young women who joined the Women’s Protection Units during this year.

Roj Dêrsim initially referred to the changes that took place within the society before and after ISIS mercenaries, saying: “After the defeat of ISIS mercenaries from the regions of northern and eastern Syria, the percentage of young women joining the ranks of Women’s Protection Units increased, especially in Arab regions such as Tabqa, Raqqa, Manbij and Deir Al-Zour.”

She added that the Arab community suffered greatly at the hands of ISIS mercenaries, as the woman was the biggest victim in that, by enslaving her and depriving her of her most basic rights, but after these areas were liberated by the Syrian Democratic Forces and Women’s Protection Units, their confidence in these units increased, and she got to know based on its principles, which motivated young women to join the ranks of YPJ.”

Roj Dêrsim touched on their goals in 2020, saying: "We bid farewell 2019 with great victories, and we are at the gates of 2020, our primary goal in 2020 is knowledge of the essence of women, and our continued resistance against all attacks, internal or external, and we will continue the struggle against authoritarian mentality cultivated in our minds until all women are liberated, and our goal from the beginning was the struggle against this mentality, and we will continue until reaching freedom, always with great determination and resolve  we will protect all women from injustice, persecution and suffering. "

At the end of her speech, Roj renewed her pledge to the martyrs and said: "Our journey continues, and we renew our covenant to the martyrs who were martyred in order to reach freedom and live with dignity on this land, after they watered it with their pure blood, such as the martyrs Havrin, Amara, Sarah, and many others who sacrificed their lives." They became a symbol of sacrifice and heroism, and we say that we will stay on their path until the last breath and continue their path until achieving their goals. "
