In a statement, the International Coalition said that an American civilian contractor was killed, and that several American and Iraqi soldiers were wounded in a missile attack on a military base in Kirkuk.

The coalition added that "Iraqi security forces are investigating."

A US official learned during the investigation told AFP that at least 30 missiles had hit the base, including an ammunition depot, which caused more explosions.

According to the American official, the attack on the base in Kirkuk is the largest since the beginning of the missile attacks on American bases.

In the middle of December, the United States called on the Iraqi government to take measures to stop attacks on American interests in Iraq that Washington attributed to Iran.

US Defense Secretary Mark Thomas Esper stated at the time that he had expressed to the resigned Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi his concern over what appeared to be attacks on bases in Iraq.
