The Egyptian Presidents, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and the Cyprus Cypriot Nicos Anastasiades, agreed to take all appropriate steps to stop the implementation of the maritime boundary agreement between Turkey and the Fayez al-Sarraj government, as an illegal agreement.

A Cypriot government spokesman said that Sisi denounced the agreement in a telephone conversation between him and his Cypriot counterpart on Thursday.

The spokesman quoted Sisi as saying that the agreement does not entail any legal positions, noting also that any Turkish military presence in Libya would destabilize the region.

Erdogan and Sarraj's agreement was met with strong condemnation from the Libyan National Army and the House of Representatives, which began efforts to withdraw international recognition of Sarraj.

Egypt says that the agreement lacks legitimacy, as Al-Sarraj does not have the authority to conclude international agreements, and the matter needs the approval of Parliament, which was not the case.
