AA: Turkish regime must be held accountable for its crimes against women

The Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria issued a written statement in conjunction with the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women.

The statement said, “The Turkish regime and its mercenaries of ISIS and al-Nusra are committing the most heinous crimes and violations against the Syrian resistant women in northern and eastern Syria.”

The statement added, "These Turkish-backed militias have repeated the ISIS scenario again in the areas they occupied of north and east Syria, and inflicted anger and racism on women either by imposing ISIS's dress and culture again or preventing them from going out and working, as these militias use all sorts of intimidation, violence and hegemony.”

The statement mentioned that what had happened to the martyr Hevrin Khalaf; the Secretary-General of the Future Syria Party, who was executed in the field with seven other civilians, was nothing but a good testimony that these organizations were just another image of ISIS with a new label and a new mask. The martyr Hevrin was an honorable example and an olive branch that had laid them down.

The statement also said, “As well as what happened with the fighter in the Women Protection Units (YPJ), Amara, of the violation and mutilation of her pure corpse, as happened to Barin Kobani in Afrin by the same mercenary groups, as well as kidnappings and killings of women in areas under their control.”

All these crimes in addition to the crimes of ISIS and al-Nusra against the Syrian women are motivating us today to work against these violations, close ranks and work together with all free women's organizations in the world to transfer these violations practiced against women and against the Syrian people of all components by the Turkish regime and its mercenaries to the International Court of Justice to hold them accountable for the crimes committed against women.

The AA thanked the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and appealed to the international community, human rights organizations, the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council to intervene urgently to condemn and stop the Turkish aggression on northeastern Syria.

At the end of the statement, the AA called on all women of the world and all human rights activists to raise their voices and not to yield to the methods of threat and intimidation practiced by the Turkish regime and its mercenaries to silence the voice of women.
