"About 128,000 Syrians are still being arbitrarily detained. This practice is unacceptable and the Syrian regime should release them," Kelly Craft said during the monthly meeting of the UN Security Council on the Syrian conflict.

It also called for international observers to be allowed access to prisons in Syria.

"Since the conflict began in 2011, some 370,000 people have been killed", she said, noting that the president of the Syrian regime has issued more than an amnesty for prisoners, especially in 2014 and 2018, and in mid-September, but tens of thousands remain in prisons.
