US intelligence warns of relationship with Turkey; Syria is source of tension

The US journalist Lokas Robinson said in a report for "United Press International "that Us intelligence warns of relationship with Turkey, where the continuing disputes deepen between the two states.  

The US International Intelligence Agency's annual global threat assessment report, published last week, identified Turkey as a deviant state, blaming it for "increasing authoritarianism" of Turkish leaders that made them more willing to challenge them.

The report came after a year of US-Turkish relations marred by the arrest of US citizens in Turkey, including the pastor Andrew Brunson.

According to the report, President Donald Trump was forced to abandon his pledge to withdraw US troops from Syria in the short term after announcing an immediate US withdrawal in 19 December. "The senators' members submitted an amendment on Tuesday to a bill of Middle East policy in the Senate."

Robinson said Trump would present Congress with a strategy to defend the Kurds in North Syria.

The agency quoted political analyst and director of the Strategic and International Studies Centers in Turkey Bulent Alireza saying. "How much pressure can this relationship make before it breaks? I do not think the secession will happen, but the issues are expanding, and the issues on the list are expanding,"

According to Alireza, Turkey's distancing from the United States is partly due to the end of the Cold War era, which removed "the common fear of the Soviet Union that linked the two countries."
