MORADA KENDA – BASEL RASHID / QAMIŞLO

2013 witenssed a qualitative leap in the issue of the Kurdish unity. After the leader of the Kurdish people Abdullah Ocalan sent a massage to Newroz Amed calling for the formation of a Kurdish unity, conferences were held in Amed, Ankara and Europe, and parties from four parts of Kurdistan attended. On July 23th of the same year, the first meeting of the Kurdish parties was held in the presence of 39 parties. After the meeting and through some pretexts, the convening of a Kurdistan national conference was impedied.

After starting to form a Kurdish unity, the Turkish state called Saleh Muslim to Turkey in 2014. After Muslem departured from Turkey and in 2015, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) began to attack the Kurdish people.

The works of forming a Kurdish unity continue

After hindering the conference, the works of forming a Kurdish unity did not stop. Till now, there are attempts for its formation as the Kurdistan National Conference - Rojava announced an initiative to form a Kurdish unit after discussion conducted with the Democratic Autonomsou Administration (DAA). In turn, the DAA allowed the unlicensed parties to open their offices in north and east Syria. The conference formed a committee to communicate with all the Kurdish parties in Rojava and north Syria. So far, dozens of meetings have been held with the parties.

As for the Kurdish unity, the spokesman on behalf of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) Saleh Muslem said to ANHA agency, "Foiling the plans of the occupying countries to Kurdistan will be possible through the formation of a Kurdish unity."

Some parties used to be away from unity

Muslem pointed out in his speech to the importance of the Kurdish unity and said, "The unity is a demand for the Kurdish people. To unite our ranks, and at least to have a single strategy, everyone must take responsibility. It is a must to form a Kurdish reference. The stage that has been being witnessed in the Middle East since 2013 requires us to form a Kurdish unity and a single strategy. The aim is to have a Kurdish unity so that the Kurdish forces will move under one banner."

They impede the Kurdish ranks' unity under some pretexts

Muslem pointed out to the dangers to the Kurdish people, and continued saying, "We have to take unified stances and decisions to confront the threats to the Kurdish people. There is no doubt that the crisis in the Middle East deepened after 2010 and the need for holding the Kurdistan National Congress increased. After the appeal of the Kurdish people leader Abdullah Ocalan in 2013, an attempt carried out, but it did not last till the end because some parties believed that holding the Kurdistan National Conference would oppose their interests, and they wanted to remain under the umbrella of the external forces; however, common meetings were held and everybody participated in the dialogue, but the political parties got themselves away from the Kurdistan National Conference using some pretexts and excuses."

In 2013, they said to us, "Your unity must not endure"

Muslem evaluated the influence of the occupying countries on the unity of the Kurdish ranks and said, "Without a doubt, the occupying countries stand against the unity of the Kurdish unity because they see that this unity does not serve their interests, and they form the greatest obstacles to the unity. I say explicitly that in 2013, we started work for holding the Kurdistan National Conference in Rojava. Some parties came to us and said, "Your unity must not continue and if it continued, you would be all enemies to us." This message made clear that they would undermine the unity of the Kurdish ranks. The enemies benefit from the contradictions emerge among the Kurdish people."

Day after day, the hostile parties to the Kurdish ranks' unity are exposed

Muslem made clear that the need for the unity increases day after day and said, "Since 2013, our attempts to achieve the Kurdish unity have not stopped. The Kurdish people advocate the unity, and we support the Kurdistan National Conference Committee and we formally met it. Day by day, the parties that are hostile to the unity of the Kurdish ranks are exposed and it is time for those parties to listen to the voice and demands of the Kurdish people."

The Kurdish ranks' unity emerged amid fighting IS terrorism

Muslem made clear that the Kurdish people got unified in their battle against IS and continued, "The unity of the Kurdish people has emerged in the battle against IS terror, and we must strengthen this unity. First of all, the Kurdish people must distinguish between their friends and enemies. With the Kurdish unity, the countries' plans and schemes against Kurdistan will be foiled. However, some political parties still remain in the arms of the enemies of the Kurdish people."

The Kurdish unity would lead democracy in the Middle East

Muslem pointed out that Syria is part of the Middle East and said, "There are a lot of foreign counties involved in Syria. Since the beginning of the crisis in 2011, it has become clear that the first force that protects the human values is the Kurdish people. If the Kurdish unity is achieved, this unit will lead democracy in the Middle East and will occupy an important position in the world."

All the components take their position within the Democratic Union Party (PYD)

The spokesman on behalf of PYD Saleh Muslem made clear in the end of his speech that ENKS says, "We will sit with PYD, but we will not sit with the Kurdistan National Conference." Muslem said, "This statement indicates that they do not want the Kurdish unity, rather, they want division. PYD in Rojava works with 22 licensed parties. For the information of those who say that PYD is unique in the authority that in PYD ranks, there are Assyrians, Syriacs, Kurds, Arabs and the martyrs' families. We have gained legitimacy and license from the institutions. PYD does not impose anything on anybody. As a political party, we are ready to hold dialogue and discussion with everybody."
