4,203 cases of violation against journalists by the authorities of Başûr Region (south Kurdistan), in addition to the deaths of 4 others, during 2017, according to statistics prepared by the Metro site interested in monitoring violations against journalists.

The journalist and media activist in Başûr Kurdistan Nayaz Abdullah, gave a lecture at the Center of the Free Media Union in the city of Qamishlo, in the presence of a number of journalists and media that the Metro site in Kurdistan region to monitor violations against journalists monitored 4203 violations against journalists in the region 2017.

According to Nayaz Abdullah, the violations which were recorded in cases of arrest, beating and torture, all were aimed at restricting the work of journalists within the region in accordance with the policy of the authorities there.

Nayaz Abdullah also said that the site also documented the killing of four journalists, including the correspondent of the Roj news agency Widad Hussein, who was arrested by security authorities, and was subjected to brutal torture and then his body was thrown on the garbage.
