TEV-DEM calls on Kurdistan Region to back down from decision to close Kurdish parties' offices

The Foreign Relations' Center in TEV-DEM issued a written statement on the decision of Başûr Kurdistan Region Government to close the offices of the Kurdistan Society Freedom Party and Kurdistan Free Women's Organization in Kurdistan.

TEV-DEM said in a statement that the decision serves Turkey in the first place and all the forces that oppose the Kurds in the area and aims to undermine the actual efforts to hold the Kurdistan National Union."

The full text of External Relations Center in TEV-DEM's statement:

"At the time when the Kurdish Cause is developing, the Kurdish role has become influential and important in the region. The forces and parties that are hostile to the Kurds, on the top the Turkish state are doing their best to reduce this role and prevent the development of the democratic solution and the revolution of democratic peoples as the Kurds play in this area a leading and important role.

The Turkish state is trying, by various means, to increase the division and conflict among the Kurdish forces. Thus, it ensures the lack of the unity of the Kurdish ranks and the withdrawal of the Kurdish forces from the project of national unity that guarantees historic changes in the course of the Kurdish situation in general. What happened on 27 November of this year; closing the centers of Kurdistan Society Freedom Movement by the administration of Başûr Kurdistan Region and the Kurdistan National Union in the city of Sulaimaniyah does not serve the Kurds at all.

In particular, in the absence of arguments that have been presented as the centers of Kurdistan Society Freedom Party and RJAK operate according to the prevailed legal systems, complemented in the Region and within what respects the Iraqi constitution, what happened contributes to giving the Turkish state to proceed more in its efforts against the Kurds. The aforementioned action serves Turkey in the first place and all the forces that oppose the Kurds in the region.

Under the important circumstances, the stage requires a serious direction towards holding the Kurdistan National Congress; the only guarantee to see a single strategy to achieve the aspirations of the people of Kurdistan in freedom and democracy, but what happened in al-Sulaimaniyah against the Kurdish movements that have a long struggle in the issue of the unity of the Kurdish row and the joint struggle aims at undermining the actual efforts to hold the Kurdistan National Conference.

We, at the Center for External Relations of TEV-DEM, stress that the behavior against the Kurdish Society Freedom Movement centers is wrong and does not represent the approach, history and line of Kurdistan National Union and the line of the late Mam Jalal.

We call upon the parties that have taken the decision of closing Kurdistan Society Freedom Movement's centers to back down from their positions and work in a way that serves the Kurdish Cause more responsibly. We call on all Kurdish political parties and forces to take positions on what happened in al-Sulaimaniyah and focus on the development of joint Kurdish-Kurdish work.

The closure decision affects the morale of our Kurdish people and weakens the hopes in the unity of the situation. It also increases the hostile attacks against the Kurds and allows them to deepen their occupation of Kurdistan, so changing the position of the National Union and Kurdistan Region Government and retreating from the wrong decision will be better because it weakens the focus towards the Kurdish unity."
