Afrin Yazidis challenge occupation, reopen Yazidi Association Center

Afrin canton was the home to thousands of Yazidi people spread among villages and the city of Afrin. Most of them were in the villages of Qestel Cindo, Baflîn, Qetmê, Sînka, Kefercenê, Qîbar, Tirindê, Burcebdalo, Burcheyder, Basûfan, Beîya, Iska and the center of Janders district. 

With the start of the attacks of the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries on Afrin canton, the Yezidi villages were subjected to barbaric shelling, looting and thieving in addition to the destruction of their most sacred religious sites. To this day, these violations continue and the fate of hundreds of abducted Yazidis remains unknown.

The Yazidis of Afrin, like hundreds of thousands of Afrin residents, did not accept the Turkish presence during the occupation of the Turkish army and its mercenaries to Afrin canton, especially that they had suffered from their oppression and tyranny throughout history and in order to avoid other massacres, they have headed towards al-Shahba canton.

In order to preserve their religion and to perform their rituals everywhere, the Yazidis of Afrin opened their center in Tel Rifat district on November 3 of this year.

The Yazidis in the area will resume their intellectual training, deepen their knowledge of their culture, support each other, exchange views and present all proposals that would be a way to liberate Afrin and help the Yazidi families who have not been able to get rid of the occupation.

The Yazidis of Afrin insist on sticking to the authentic Kurdish culture, expressing their rejection of the Turkish occupation and to thwart its plans to obliterate the Kurdish identity.

In this context, the member of the Center Fullah Shakro said that they see the idea of ​​re-opening a center for the Yazidis is primarily to thwart the schemes and conspiracies of the Turkish aggression on the Yazidi people as the occupation considers that the forced exit of the people, the destruction of shrines and the distortion of religion will be an end to them so this center proves the determination, steadfastness and adherence to the culture of their ancestors.
