Women play important role in education field

During IS occupation of the city of al-Raqqa, IS mercenaries have obliterated women in all fields and denied them of playing their role in education in order to build a backward generation not aware of their rights and thus impose their total control on the city.

More than a year after the liberation of the city of al-Raqqa by the Syrian Democratic Forces from IS, women began to contribute in building the society and engaging in all fields of life, including education.

The Women's Bureau of the Education Committee worked on the preparation and sorting of female teachers. The Women's Bureau also opened training courses for female teachers so that they could reorganize themselves after the injustice they had been subjected to and eliminate the ideas which the mercenaries tried to implant in the minds of the people.

A member of the Education Committee in al-Raqqa, Nahla al-Salem said, "One year after the liberation of the city of al-Raqqa, the opening of the schools and rehabilitating them for the students, we have suffered from many difficulties, including the failure of female students to accept to complete their education as a result of extremist ideology published by the mercenaries in al-Raqqa."

Nahla added, "We got rid of these obstacles after the opening of many training courses for the teachers and through continuous communication with the teachers and students, and now, the number of teachers in the schools of al-Raqqa reached to 3,000 teachers."

In turn, the member of the Education Committee Heba al-Khalaf pointed out that IS during their occupation had shortened the field of education in the mosques, teaching the children on the Quran only and teaching them the Islamic religion in an extreme manner.

Heba said at the end of her speech, "We will continue to make efforts to reach a free ethical society based on women's freedom."
