The Syrian North was characterized of the multitude of religions, sects and co-existent peoples there since thousands of years to the present day; Kurds, Arabs, Syriac with various denominations such as Muslims, Christians, Yazidi people, Chaldeans, Assyrians and Armenians.

Each people and sect in the north and east of Syria used to practice their customs and traditions according to their belief away from the other people or sect. As a result of the policies of the regimes that ruled the region and which tried to differentiate between the peoples of the region with the aim of weakening them and creating political and sectarian conflicts among them with religious and national arguments, these policies to some extent caused a rift and divergence among the components and sects. As a result, several sectarian and nationalist conflicts that took place in the region, including Qamişlo Uprising in 2004 during the regime's attempt to create a rift between the Kurdish and Arab components in al-Jazeera region areas.

During Rojava Revolution, the people of the region adopted the ideas and principles of the democratic nation and took them as an approach for their struggle. The peoples of the region gradually lost the chauvinistic conflicts that the regimes established among the peoples of the region. Today, seven years after Rojava Revolution, the people reached a type of social unity and share with each other all aspects of political, military and even religious life.

The military unit

In the course of the Syrian crisis which came into its eighth year, several armed groups emerged and the fact that these groups disguised behind religion and others under the guise of nationalism and sectarianism, creating sectarian, national and religious conflicts in most cities and regions of the Syria, but this phenomenon did not occur in the areas of Rojava thanks to YPG and YPJ which were formed to defend the people of Rojava regions and to stand against any policy that distinguishes the components of the region, and then formed several military forces in the regions of northern and eastern Syria of all components such as the Syriac Military Council and al-Senadid  Forces and others all gathered under the roof of SDF and managed to defeat terrorism in most of the north-eastern regions of Syria. We can call this situation as military-social unit.

Social cohesion

The success of the military was not only the outcome of the revolution of the peoples of northern and eastern Syria, but also the unity and cohesion between the peoples of north and east Syria in order to build a free democratic society through the institutions that were built and in which all the peoples of the region participate.

These victories have had a positive impact on the social relations within most cities and regions of northern and eastern Syria. Today, we find the Kurds and Arabs and Syriac and Yezidis in Tirbê Spîyê of al-Jazeera in northern Syria share with each other in all religious rituals and public occasions. These rituals and customs are greatly similar to each other in the result of the co-existence of these peoples with each other. Today, it is difficult to distinguish between a Kurdish wedding, an Arab or a Syriac wedding. At a funeral ceremony, all the peoples of the region, regardless of their sect or nationality, or even their intellectual or political orientation can be found inside the tent, where everyone shares each other's sorrows and joys.

Religious respect

As a result of the exploitation of religion during the Syrian crisis by some groups, there was an urgent need to spread the idea of tolerance, fraternity and co-existence among the peoples of the region. After the success of the military and social side within the revolution of Rojava and north-east Syria, a positive effect on the religious side was left. Today, all the components are practicing their religious rituals, especially the Yazidis who have been subjected to the worst crimes of genocide by the regimes and military militias and mercenaries who were calling in the name of the Islamic religion.

Everyone shares the joys and sorrows of the others

Thaer al-Ali from Tirbê Spîyê explained the common customs among the people of the region and said, "We became one people after the revolution of Rojava in the north and east of Syria, where they have no longer distinguished between a Kurdish wedding, an Arab or a Syriac, where all the components are involved, and also during the funeral ceremony."

Al-Ali explained that the people of the region managed through free democratic thought to eliminate the authoritarian, national and religious mentality that divided the region's components, "Today, thanks to their cohesion, we find a democratic administration in which all components are shared."

For his part, the Syriac citizen George Malki pointed out that the Kurds, Arabs, Yazidis and Syriac participate in each other's events thanks to their solidarity in all life domains, and were able to protect their land and homeland, and the blood mixed with each other."
