Heavy thunderstorms accompanied by hail and strong winds struck wide areas of Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor, as well as parts of the countryside of Homs, Hama and Aleppo today, causing flash floods, flooding and torrents in valleys, and cutting off several roads, according to the Civil Defense.

The Meteorological Directorate warned that heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning would continue. The directorate said rainfall had begun in Deir ez-Zor, with rain clouds approaching Hasakah Governorate.

The directorate said flash floods and flooding had swept across areas stretching from the eastern countryside of Aleppo to Raqqa and the northern Badia, while distress calls were reported from areas affected by rising water levels and powerful floodwaters.

The Meteorological Directorate also forecast rainfall across the coastal, northwestern, northern and central regions, as well as the Jazira Canton.
