Still fighting against the mentality of betrayal in Khakork

A memorial ceremony was held in Serêkaniyê for martyr Beritan (Gulnaz Qarah Tash), who martyred in 1992 in battles between the PKK and the occupied Turkish state and its PDK ally. The fighter refused to surrender and fought until the last bullet. When she ran out of bullets, she broke her weapon so that the enemies would not take it and threw herself from a cliff. Since then, the Kurdish people in all four parts of Kurdistan have been commemorating the anniversary of her martyrdom.

Today, the Young Women's Union and the Star Conference organized a memorial ceremony for the struggler Beritan at the Washo Kani Center for Culture and Art in Serêkaniyê. The ceremony was attended by members of civil society organizations, fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces, the People's Protection Units, the Women’s Protection Units and the people of Serêkaniyê . within the center,  pictures of Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan and pictures of martyr Beritan were hung.

The memorial ceremony began with a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs' lives. After that, a short film was presented about the resistance of the martyr Beritan.

Then Zeynab Habash spoke, member of the Executive Council of the Movement for Democratic Society in northern Syria. "Kurdish women and the Kurdish people continue to walk on the path of martyr Beritan," Zeynab said, recalling all the martyrs of freedom. "The Turkish state sought to erase the Kurdish culture and language and even change the name of Dêrsim, but thanks to the resistance of Kurdish women like Beritan, Sarah and Bese were thwarted and the extermination policies of the occupant Turkish state were foiled and the history of Dêrsim was protected. "

Beritan is the symbol of a woman struggling against the mind that denies women's will

"Beritan is the symbol of a woman who stood in the face of the mentality that was so prevalent among the parties that women are slaves representing honor to men," she said, Beritan made it clear that  honor is the soil of the homeland and freedom, she fought against the mindset that denies will of the people, enslaves women as well as betrayal and surrender the PDK followed. "One of the results of Beritan’s operation is that she has made women of strong will to establish their own army: Today thousands of our daughters and fighters are named after their name and their ideas are taught in our academies.

Zeynab explained that the mentality of treason itself stands today alongside the Turkish occupation state in its quest to enter Khakurk, but the fighters on the path of Beritan resist in Khakurk and prevent the enemy from advancing one step.

Then the teacher Idris Hadji translated the word Zainab into Arabic.

The ceremony concluded with slogans that glorify martyrs.
