US arrested man promotes IS

The federal authorities said on Friday that an American citizen in Chicago of Iraqi origins has been arrested after accusations of coordinating with IS mercenaries on the Internet to recruit and encourage violence

The US authorities arrested the so-called Ashraf al-Safou on Wednesday in a city in the US Midwest Region and he was accused of conspiring to provide financial support and resources to a foreign terrorist organization.

According to the French news agency, Ashraf al-Safou was accused of advertising via internet to reinforce violence in support of IS.

Al-Safou is at 34 and he was brought to the court on Friday and placed in the federal custody.
The Deputy Prosecutor John Demers said in a statement that al-Safo was accused of publishing online propaganda that promotes violence to support IS.

The authorities said the American citizen of Iraqi originis a member of Khetab Media Foundation, an electronic gang allied with Daesh.

The Ministry of Justice said in a statement that al-Safou is accused of publishing videos, articles and drawings that advocate IS via social media.
