Women in al-Shadadi between yesterday, today

All categories of people suffered from the injustice of ISIS and depriving them of their most basic rights, perhaps the most vulnerable category was women, where they were forbidden to go out and work and remained locked in the black cloak.

Al - Shadadi women remove blackness and share in all aspects of life

After the liberation of al-Shadadi from ISIS by the Syrian Democratic Forces in February 2016, the woman in al-Shadadi turned from a weak and oppressed woman to a woman who had a decision, she participate along with the man in all fields. She organized herself with her own communes, in addition of taking her place in the co- chair with the man within the institutions.

One of the institutions that deals directly with women's affairs, where the women work to solve their outstanding issues and know their rights and duties, the Women's House, which has become a destination for women in the district.

The Women's House, which opened on March 2, 2017, consists of five female members, two of whom are specialists in reconciliation, they solve most of women's social and life problems and resolve marital disputes, such as minor marriage and polygamy, and it put the women on the right path by employing her and making her undertake the responsibility to get rid of dependence and depend on herself.

Since the opening of the center, it has become a destination for the women of the area to solve their issues away from the courts and mental authority, where the center has received 750 cases and was able, thanks to the efforts of the working staff to resolve 600 cases.

The administrator in Women's House Amira Saad said, "The woman suffered a lot during the ISIS occupation. She was only a housewife raising children, now after the liberation, she has worked hand in hand with men in all fields of administration and politics, and demonstrated her ability to lead communities for the better,"

Amira pointed out that the cases resolved by them amounted to 600 cases, all of which were resolved through mutual agreement. Most of the cases were related to fraud, sexual harassment and minor marriages.

She said, "The most cases that come to us are divorces and we treat them with reconciliation. If reconciliation is not done after many attempts to prevent divorce, we will transfer the case to the People's Court.”

Amira concluded her speech by stressing that the main objectives of the Women's House are to empower women to regain their rights and to ensure their participation in building society freely and independently.
