Women in al-Raqqa pioneers in agriculture

Agriculture has a good interest by the people, where the area of ​​irrigated agricultural land was comfortable, and through pumps and engines in 2010 more than 160 thousand hectares and production amounted to 607 thousand tons, and al-Raqqa was ranked the third rank in the production of wheat in Syria after Aleppo and al-Hasakah

In the past period, during the occupation of IS mercenaries and Jabhit al-Nusra  preceded by the decline in production to less than half due to the high prices of fertilizers and the destruction of irrigation networks, the high prices of fuel needed for the engines that irrigate the land, and the low price of crops compared to the production cost.

It may be unusual for some societies of male mentality to know that the woman was the first who discovered, fertilized and was the first teacher of agriculture, a woman whose history is preferred as the first pioneer of agriculture and hence social security and stability, since the beginning of creation, women have been involved in economic activities, she was specialized in gathering grains, roots and fruits.

Agriculture is one of the most important basic factors in which women work in al-Raqqa as a result of their attachment to the land from time immemorial, also the land provide them with their basic needs at home.

Many rural women work in agriculture because of its importance in securing basic food needs in order to achieve self-sufficiency for their family's economy as well as the benefits of agriculture.

The mother Sakina al-Yasin from the north countryside of al-Raqqa and owns a piece of land after the death of her husband said "I am a mother of orphaned children and I work with my family in agriculture throughout the year, depending on the time of crop cultivation, summer and winter, this land provides me with my basic needs of vegetables and winter hoard, and the economic yield of crops.

"I work to help my family secure the daily needs and benefit from the crops that we work in, we work 8 hours a day." the citizen Fatema al-Ali from al-Kasrat area said.

Al-Raqqa city and its countryside have witnessed after its liberation by the Syrian Democratic Forces from IS mercenaries on 2017 a significant activity in the agricultural sector.
