Kongra Star 7th conference to hold in coming days

On 25-26 February, 2016, Star Union held its sixth conference in Rumailan town, in which 251 delegates from the cantons of Rojava, Damascus and Lebanon, as well as a number of female guests and representatives of various political and civil components, parties and organizations participated. In the 6th conference, the covenant of Star Union’s work were discussed, and in the result of the discussions that took place, the organization’s name was changed from Star Union to Kongra Star, and the organization's slogan was also changed.

In order to evaluate the work of the past two years and to issue proposals and resolutions for the development of women's work in Kongra Star and to avoid mistakes and obstacles experienced by the organization in the previous years, Kongra Star will hold its seventh general conference at Aram Tikran Center in Rumailan town.

Many meetings were held in all the cities and districts of Rojava cantons, administrations were selected for Kongra Star in the districts and towns of the cantons. 7 administrators were elected for each town, 13 for each district and15 for each canton.  As for Afrin canton and as a result of the displacement of its people to al-Shahba canton due to the Turkish occupation, Kongra Star worked on the restructure of the conference and the organization of the work again in al-Shahba.

The 7th general conference was scheduled to take place in March last year, but as a result of the Turkish occupation of Afrin canton and the continuous attacks on the areas of Rojava, the conference was postponed as it will be held on 16-17 of August.

The spokeswomen on behalf of Kongra Star Avin Swayed said that the conference is scheduled to be held every two years, but it has been delayed this year because of the Turkish occupation of Afrin canton and the displacement of its people to al-Shahba so the conference worked to organize the work again in al-Shahba.

Avin noted that hundreds of meetings were held in all areas, districts and towns of Rojava. She also said, "During the meetings and discussions that were held, the mistakes and shortcomings of Kongra Star in the past two years were discussed. The discussions also focused on the status of women in general, especially after their participation in the Resistance of the Age against the Turkish occupation."

According to Avin, all women and women's organizations and parties in North Syria and outside Syria were invited, as well as delegations from the recently liberated areas such as Deir ez-Zor, al-Raqqa and al-Tabqa attended the conference. Avin said that during the conference, the organization of Kongra Star work in these areas and how to organize women there will be discussed."

"The conference will be held for two consecutive days. During these two days, we will discuss the works of the past two years, we will also discuss the participation of women in the parties and their integration with Kongra Star to work together and raise the pace of struggle against the occupying plans," Avin said.
