A brief statement issued by the Information Office of Prime Minister al-Arafi Haider Abadi said that "the Prime Minister Haider Abadi ordered the withdrawal of the Minister of Electricity on the back of the deterioration of electricity services."

For his part, an official told AFP that "Abadi ordered the opening of investigations in the files of contracts and employment and projects not completed."

During the protests in the south of the country, demonstrators called for the dismissal of al-Fehdawi because of the severe weakness in electricity services, which Iraqi families receive only for limited hours a day.

Iraq is suffering from a major shortage of electricity in the country, where temperatures exceed 50 C0.

As temperatures rise each year, electricity supplies to the population are decreasing, helping to increase popular anger against the government.
