A Kuwaiti official said his country may take a decision to stop oil exports across Bab al-Mandab Strait after a similar Saudi decision, but stressed that it was still "under study" and that a final decision had not yet been made.

Bader al-Khashti, chairman of the Kuwaiti oil tanker company, told Reuters on Thursday, "the possibilities are in place, but there is nothing certain so far."

Al-Khashti said "There must be an alternative, everything has to be studied and then we to decide."

On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia's minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Wealth Khalid al-Faleh announced that the kingdom would suspend all shipments of crude oil passing through Bab al-Mandab Strait until navigation through Bab al-Mandab Straits became safe.

Al-Faleh "The threat of al-Huthi terrorist militias to crude oil carriers affects the freedom of world trade and the maritime navigation of Bab al-Mandab and the Red Sea."
