Demonstrators Killed, 45 others injured in Iraq

Thousands of Iraqis demonstrated on Friday from the cities of Basra, al-Nasiriyah, al-Diwaniyah and Karbala in southern Iraq and the demonstrations reached to the capital Baghdad, and they gathered in al-Tahrir Square.

According to Sky News, the demonstrators tried to cross Jeser al-Jemhoriya towards the Green Zone, but security forces dispersed them.

While Sputnik quoted from the spokesman of the Iraqi Ministry of Health Saif Bader saying, the outcome of injuries so far has reached 45 people among them 2 people were killed in al-Diwaniyah and al-Najaf as a result of the use of force and tear gas by the security forces.

In al-Basra, the source of the protests, a member of the security forces and a demonstrator were killed during night clashes with a clan in al-Karma area.

In al- Diwaniyah, the so-called Faileq Bader loyal to Iran confronted the angry demonstrators, 2 demonstrators killed and dozens injured as well.

Central and southern governorates have been protesting since 15 days demanding services and job opportunities for the unemployed. The Iraqi Interior Minister Qassem al-Araji called on the protesters to keep calm, and give the authorities an opportunity to respond to their demands.
