Peace Academy Member: Any constitution under occupation will be mandate on Syrian people

Lewand Mirko stressed that any constitution in the presence of the occupation will be a mandate and guardianship on the Syrian people, and stressed the need for the Syrians themselves to establish the constitution that they want and achieve their destiny with their hands without restrictions or foreign intervention.

This came during an interview conducted by Hawar news agency with a member of the International Academy of Peace the poet and writer Lewand Mirko on the international to draft a new constitution for Syria.

On the efforts of some parties to prepare a new constitution for Syria, Mirko questioned the possibility of establishing a fair constitution guaranteeing the rights of all parties in the presence of what he called foreign military forces occupying the Syrian territory. He pointed out that any constitution placed in these circumstances would be a mandate and guardianship of peoples’ eager for freedom.

Lewand Mirko added, "I am talking about the Turkish state that occupied large parts of the Syrian territories and violated the rights of Syrian citizens to prove its presence and try to impose its hegemony over the constitutional discussions, so where is the will of the Syrian people."

Mirko said that the discussion of the constitution takes place in parliaments composed of elected members who represent the views of the people; otherwise, it would be considered a step to legitimize the occupation. However, the conflicting parties must work to stop bleeding and reduce external interference.

The Syrians themselves must put the constitution they want

Lewand said, “It is necessary for the Syrian people to participate in the development of any new constitution for the country, and in order to achieve this, we must adhere to the principle of acceptance of the other, but the most important is that the Syrians themselves must establish the constitution they want and realize their fate without the restrictions or foreign intervention."

It is noteworthy that the International Academy for Peace is located in al-Galilee in Palestine, and it calls for the spread of peace and the end of wars in all parts of the world.
