UN: Refugees’ number exceeded 270,000 in south Syria

After controlling al-Ghouta al-Sharqiya by a Russian-Turkish agreement in which Turkey was allowed to occupy Afrin canton in exchange for taking the armed gangs out of al-Ghouta al-Sharqiya to the Syrian north, The Syrian regime went to the south and on June 19, it launched a military operation towards Daraa to reach the Jordanian border.

Daraa's towns and villages were heavily bombed by the regime's artillery and Russian warplanes, causing a significant displacement towards the border.

UNHCR’s spokesman in Jordan Mohammed al-Hawari told Reuters Agency,"The number of the displaced people in southern Syria as a result of the escalation of fighting 2 weeks ago has risen to 270,000 according to the latest statistics of the UN."

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the loss of 132 civilians, including 25 children and 23 female citizens since June19 this year in the intensive raids and the missile and artillery shelling by the Russians and the regime on Daraa governorate.

Several towns have reached an agreement with Russia in which they surrendered to the regime's forces on the impact of the bombing, while Russian negotiations with other areas continue to join these agreements.
