Aleppo artisans, industrialists resume their work, municipality helps

Aleppo city was known as the economic metropolis of Syria, after eight years of bitter wars between the conflicting parties where their people have tasted different kinds of bitterness due to these conflicts, there are those who lost their family or children in the war. While some losses targeted the factories and workshops such as traders and owners of capital, even worse, they were forced to leave, some, however, refused to leave their livelihood.

Sheikh Maksoud neighborhood like the other Aleppean neighborhoods was famous for factories of various handicraft industries, until the battles intensified and the industry and trade declined.

After security and stability were retrieved to Sheikh Maksoud neighborhood, approximately 71 people returned from the various Syrian regions, according to the statistics of the People's Municipality, 12 artisan live the in the neighborhood.

The professions that came back to the neighborhood include mostly workshops for the clothing industry, which make up 47% of the total artisans returning, and the rest of the crafts are workshops manufacturing of " furniture carpenter”, detergents and food laboratories for the manufacture of children's snacks.

It is estimated that the number of workers in these trades is more than 5 thousand workers from the neighborhood of Sheikh Maksoud and the neighborhoods of Aleppo in general, and administrators from People's Municipality noted that raising the standard of living linked to the income of the individual, which is increasing in the presence of work and lack of absence.

In addition, the local product when marketed, its prices are cheaper to avoid transit and tariffs besides the monopoly of traders, while at the same time self-sufficiency of some sub-things such as not to import clothes, but locally manufactured.

Administrator in Contracts Committee belonging to People's municipality Zeynab Jarnas said that the municipality is working to facilitate all measures taken for the return of industrialists and craftsmen, in addition to securing the place of work and granting licenses, in addition to granting no objection to practicing the profession of workshop owners and craftsmen, and help them by various means available at the municipality to attract and encourage them.

Zeynab Jarrnas said "Previously, the neighborhood lacked a large number of shops, which led to an increase in the price of products and goods, but now with the return of owners of clothing and food shops opening their shops and stalls, so goods’ prices have declined."

At the end of her talk, Zeynab Jarnas appealed to all craftsmen to return to the neighborhood.
