Qamishlo women: Zilan proved that all major operation are carried out by women

The authoritarian regimes in the Middle East continue to exist in the Middle East through nationalistic states such as Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria. The Kurdish people are considered among the oldest peoples in the Middle East. Despite all the attempts of the nation-states to eliminate the culture and existence of the Kurdish people and to divide it among 4 nationalistic states, the resistance of the Kurdish people did not stop. Many of the leaders of the struggle were women. In Kurdish history, many women, such as Zarifa Koçeri, Laila Kassem, Zilan, Beritan and Sakina, left behind a great influence in the struggle and brought it to later generations.

Among those women were Zilan (Zainap Kinaci), who came from Malatya city in Bakur, north Kurdistan, and in 1996 there were dirty plots from the Turkish state aimed at the Kurdistan Freedom Movement, Turkish occupation state tried to assassinate Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocelan in the Syrian capital Damascus, but its plan B failed. In response to this plot, Zilan carried out a commando operation on June 30, 1996, in the Turkish soldiers’ ranks in Dêrsim city center after her body was loaded with bombs.

The guerrilla operation of Zilan, gave faith and strength to all women in Kurdistan and in Rojava also, which had a leading role in organizing society.

Samira Mohammed, is at 49 years old, was introduced to the Kurdistan Freedom Movement in 1982. She says that the ideology and thought of Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocelan are sound, so they were influenced by this thought and started the organizational and enlightening struggle.

'Women knew the path of resistance from Zilan'

Samira pointed out that women were seen before the Kurdistan Freedom Movement as ignorant, she said, "Women were not able to talk to men. “They felt shy to talk, but the Kurdistan Freedom Movement did not differentiate between men and women, and through it we knew our rights, so we started the struggle."

Samira said that after Zilan carried out her commando operation, she heard it through a leaflet and said about the impact of the operation of the fighter Zilan. "We have gained great courage from the comrade Zilan. Today, all the women of Kurdistan are on her way, and the best example is Arin Mirkan, Avesta This resistance has taught him from Zilan, and today thousands of women are on the same path. Samira added, who fought in her youth, continues to struggle in Rojava revolution

“The audacity of women like Zilan broke our fear barrier”

The mother whose name is Badi'a Hsari at 60 years. The mother noted that the first members of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement who visited her home were called students, and pointed out that they opened the doors of their homes to students and through them gained knowledge.

Among the revolutionary women is Bahia Sulaiman, who began her educational and organizational activities when she was 22 years old and is now 59 years old. She says about the commando operation of the fighter Zilan. "After hearing the operation of Zilan, we gained strength and courage After her martyrdom, we set out to achieve greater goals, and on this basis, we re-examined our lifestyle and our values. Then we said to ourselves if the comrade Zilan carried out a commando operation in the ranks of the occupation army, why are we afraid of the soldiers of the regime? We were proud and said that the great commando operations are always carried out by women, Zilan saw that her will is greater than the Turkish occupation state and said that it is possible to face it and reach its core.

Bahia Suleiman ended her speech saying, " Avesta carried out her commando operation against the Turkish occupation state in the spirit and strength of the martyr Zilan and marched on her path.
