Fall of Iranian currency reignited demonstrations again

Several demonstrations took place in Tehran on Monday to protest against the continuing collapse of the Iranian currency against the dollar. The demonstrations were accompanied by major strikes that paralyzed the capital's bazaar.

Iranian websites posted on social mrdia, videos of demonstrations launched inside Tehran market and near the exchange market. Participants chanted slogans against the government, Iranian President Hassen Rowhani and his economic team.

Iran's Fars news agency reported a nearly complete strike on shops in Tehran bazaar, considered the commercial nerve of Iran.

While exchange offices in the capital did not sell or buy hard currency, especially the dollar, for fear of extreme currency fluctuations.

The Iranian currency has been declining for months due to the weak economic performance, financial difficulties in local banks and heavy demand for the dollar among Iranians worried about Washington's withdrawal from the nuclear deal and renewed US sanctions on Tehran which could reduce the country's oil and other exports.
