High prices of vaccines and fodder limits livestock in al-Raqqa

The livestock sector suffered in al-Raqqa and its countryside many difficulties in raising “cattle , poultry and fish " due to high price of fodder and vaccines while livestock owners appealed from al-Raqqa Civil Council to provide assistance to them to maintain them.

Livestock and poultry farmers now are suffering from high prices of fodder, veterinary vaccines to treat diseases, not to mention the popular markets "bazaar" which cause the transfer of diseases among the livestock from one area to another.

In the Office of the Animal Wealth belonging to al-Raqqa Civil Council monitors the pharmacies and poultry farms and is working hard to stop mobile markets for livestock due to the complaints submitted to the office, which cause diseases transfer in livestock.

The chairman of the Livestock Commission Munzer Rafit al-Saleh talked "The problems for cattle breeders is the prices of vaccines and some vaccines was purchased from markets, as well as be corrupt ,as well as the price of fodder."

Al-Saleh added "We have licensed 63 veterinary pharmacies, 6 veterinary warehouses and 42 poultry farms."

Due to of higher fodder prices, cattle breeders graze cattle on the banks of the Euphrates River. Overgrazing causes tapeworm disease. They need straw needle to protect cattle from worms and are not available in markets.

Foot-and-mouth disease is a highly contagious disease that affects animals the disease is spread directly and indirectly through turbid water, fertilizer and overgrazing.

Hamadi al-Hussein said "We suffer from "bazaar", the random market that was formed as a result of the wars. We wish the livestock committee of al-Raqqa Civil Council to remove these markets and open a single market to prevent the spread of diseases."

Veterinarian Ahmed al-Hussien said, "The diseases are very common among sheep and livestock as a result of random markets and lack of vaccines."

Member of the Livestock Committee Mahmoud al-Hamzawi said: "The fish wealth has been severely damaged by over-fishing and the neglect of fishermen for hunting method. As a result of this chaos we will form committees to monitor and raise fishermen and grant them licenses to pursue fishing on assets."

Fishermen also suffer from high prices of vaccines and fodder.

The breeders of sheep, cows, poultry and fish" appealed to al-Raqqa Civil Council to provide support to them and to provide the necessary fodder and vaccines for the conservation of livestock.
