Armenia... Thousands in streets coincide with electing new prime minister

Thousands of protesters marched into the Armenian capital Yerevan in conjunction with the parliament’s sought to elect a new prime minister. After the opposition’s leader Nicole Pachinian accused the ruling Republican Party of trying to block his candidacy for the government presidency.

Pachinian said in a video that a meeting led by Serzh Sargsyan, the prime minister who resigned under the pressure of the demonstrators on April 23 was held in the evening and the Republicans decided to disrupt the election of the prime minister on Tuesday. He called on the demonstrators to head towards the streets.

Since the morning hours, the demonstrators began to flock towards the capital Yerevan as the parliament is expected to elect a new prime minister during an extraordinary session to be held on Tuesday.

The Prosperous Armenia Party which has 31 deputies in the parliament has previously announced that it will vote for Pashinyan, as well as the Revolutionary Federal Party which has 7 deputies.

Pashinyan needs an additional 6 votes to get a 53-vote majority in the council that is consisted of 105 deputies.
