Macron warns of trade war between allies

On the third day of his state visit to the United States, French President Emmanuel Macron delivered a speech Wednesday to the US Congress in the presence of members of the Senate and House of Representatives. Macron began his speech by talking about the friendly relations between the two countries, before talking about the climate agreement and the Iranian nuclear file.
In his speech, Macron warned of a "trade war between the Allies," calling on the United States to "re-invent pluralism" at the applause of members of the Senate and House of Representatives.
He said "A trade war between allies is not homogenous.", referring to President Donald Trump's protectionist threats, warning of a trade war, reiterating that "there is no alternative planet" on the climate issue in implicit criticism of the US withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement.

He added "I'm sure the United States will one day return to the Paris agreement." Macron adding that the Democrats, some of whom chanted "Long live France" while the Republicans were silent.
In his speech, Macron addressed the Iranian nuclear issue, stressing that the goal is clear: to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
"Our goal is clear in Iran: never have a nuclear weapon, not now, not five years, not ten years later," Macron said. "Iran's policy should not lead us to war in the Middle East."

With regard to the North Korean file, the French president stressed that his country stands with the United States in its position on North Korea.
 he said ,"The terrorist threat is becoming more dangerous with the proliferation of nuclear weapons, so we have to be tougher with the countries that are trying to come up with the nuclear bomb."
