The Women's Council in North and East Syria sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of the 8th anniversary of the Women Protection Units (YPJ) establishment which falls on tomorrow.

The Women's Council said in the telegram: "Tomorrow marks the eighth anniversary of the establishment of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) which are considered the shield for women and society. The Women’s Protection Units have greatly contributed to protecting the areas of north and east Syria from extremist obscurantist forces such as Jabhet al-Nusra and the terrorist organization ISIS, which destroyed, terrorized, displaced and killed innocent civilians, spread hard-line ideology and targeted women to obliterate their identity and strip them of their rights and dignity."

The Council considered that the establishment of the Women Protection Units was the decisive response to the attempt to impose a backward mentality in order to return women to the eras of ignorance, and the resistance of the Women Protection Units in Kobani represented by resistance and sacrifice of  Arin Merkan, and her companions had the greatest credit for defeating terrorism, liberating the city of Kobani and protecting the achievements and gains achieved by the women's revolution in north and east Syria, and in doing so, it became a unique model for all over the world and a symbol of resistance, peace and freedom.

The Council affirmed that the popular movement that began in Syria in 2011 was a turning point in the life of Syrian women, especially women in north and east Syria, who have proven themselves and deservedly in all aspects of life, and thus achieved pioneering historic steps that established a new future for all coexisting peoples and components in north and east Syria.

The Council continued its statement, saying: "We in the Women’s Council in North and East Syria extend our warmest congratulations and blessings to the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) on the anniversary of their creation, we bow to the souls of our martyrs who made great sacrifices, and we renew the pledge to protect and preserve the gains achieved in the women's revolution in North and East Syria, continuing struggle, resistance, liberation of occupied areas, and a way out of the Syrian crisis through a comprehensive political solution, in which all Syrian parties and components participate.
