Zenobia Gathering: Women's role crucial in building new Syria

The Zenobia Women’s Council in Raqqa, NE Syria, congratulated all Syrians on the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on December 8.

In a statement delivered today, in the presence of its members and representatives of women’s organizations in Raqqa, Randa Al-Assaf, a member of the training committee of the gathering, read: "On this happy day, we congratulate ourselves and our resilient people on the fall of the oppressive Assad regime."

The statement continued: "This regime, which has long spread corruption, exercised the worst forms of repression and tyranny against the people of the nation, robbed us of our rights, insulted our dignity, and subjected us to domination and oppression for decades, has been defeated by the will of the Syrian people."

It added: "The long-awaited victory has been achieved, and the journey of building a new Syria has begun, a democratic and just Syria, where human rights are respected, the dignity of citizens is preserved, and the contribution of women and their pivotal role in nation-building are recognized."

The gathering expressed its sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the national forces that participated in the “blessed revolution” and sacrificed greatly for freedom and dignity.

The statement drew attention to the resilience and sacrifices of "our Syrian people, who have proven to be strong, undefeated, and unbreakable, bearing the burdens of war and destruction while preserving their hope for a better future."

It also praised the resistance and perseverance of Syrian women in the face of challenges, highlighting their decisive role in protecting their families and homeland, and called on the Syrian Interim Government to meet the demands of the Syrian people.

At the same time, the Zenobia Women’s Gathering condemned the ongoing attacks by the Turkish occupying state and its mercenaries on the North and East Syria region, explaining that these attacks not only threaten the security and stability of the region but also the stability of the entire area.

The gathering also recalled the resistance of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and their tremendous efforts in combating ISIS and liberating hundreds of villages and cities to ensure a better future "for our children and grandchildren."

In conclusion, the gathering offered condolences to the families of the martyrs who fell defending the homeland, freedom, and in resistance to Turkish occupation, pledging: "We will continue our struggle until we achieve all our goals and establish a democratic, just, and prosperous Syria."
