YPJ: Women's resistance represents hope and meaning of life

The General Command of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) issued a written statement on the occasion of International Women's Day, extending its congratulations to all women worldwide.

The statement read: "March 8th has become a day of profound significance thanks to the historic resistance and sacrifices of women. On this day, the courageous voice of women resonated far and wide, and with the cry for women's freedom, societies rediscovered a chance at life. This day embodies the long history of women; it is not limited to working women in New York, but is rooted in the struggle of the 'divine woman' in the foothills of the Zagros and Taurus Mountains and the fertile land of Mesopotamia. The struggle of women against the murderous, patriarchal system continues in every historical era as a battle for survival, and today, women continue their unwavering fight for the dignity of humanity."

On behalf of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ), we congratulate all women of the world on March 8th, International Women's Day and the Day of Raising the Voice for Freedom. From the heart of the sacred land, from the midst of the flames of peoples' freedom, and among the flowers watered by the blood of martyrs, we declare: There is no life without women's freedom. It is the thought and philosophy of Leader Ocalan that has restored meaning to women's lives. The architect of the philosophy of "Woman, Life, Freedom" has become for us the guiding principle of a new life, and the struggle based on the ideology of women's liberation has guaranteed our path to success. Today, thousands of female fighters of the Rojava Revolution breathe life into the trenches, imbued with the faith of Apoist ideology. The life that the dominant man tried to destroy is being rebuilt by the hands of heroic women, and our source of strength is Leader Ocalan .Despite the harsh conditions of isolation, the Leader has never abandoned women, and we, too, cling to our Leader with the same loyalty. Therefore, the freedom of the Leader is the guarantee of the freedom of all women and society.

For years, our regions have been subjected to the most heinous practices of our time by the murderous, dominant regime. Sometimes in the name of ISIS, and other times under the names of similar groups, they threaten our revolution and refuse to acknowledge our gains. But we did not bow down to the darkness and terrorism of ISIS, and we will not bow down in the future to terrorism that hides behind different names. We have placed our very existence and lives on the battlefield to protect our homeland, and we will fight for these values ​​until the end. Whatever the cost, we have chosen to die with dignity rather than live a meaningless life. As the Women's Protection Units (YPJ), we affirm that we are always at the forefront of defending our social values.

From the military to the social sphere, from politics to culture, women are waging the struggle in all areas of life. The women of Rojava have written a new destiny for all women, and they possess the legacy of women freedom fighters worldwide. On this blessed day, we remember with reverence all the martyrs of the freedom cause, especially the martyrs Deniz, Sedar, Shilan, Siyajin, Arin, and Jiyajin. Our martyrs have sown the seeds of freedom in our homeland, and we will always follow in their footsteps through resistance and the struggle for a free and equal life.

We call upon all women of the world—young women, mothers, artists, workers, revolutionaries, and activists—to raise their voices together like a mighty river, so that the sea of ​​freedom may become vast and endless. Occupiers can never stand against the waves of freedom.
