YPJ publishes statement on Sweida attacks

The Women's Protection Units issued a strongly worded statement, beginning with the following: "We have been closely monitoring the attacks of the Syrian Transitional Government gangs against our Druze people for some time. We strongly condemn these unlawful attacks that violate human morality, as they target children, women, and our civilian population."

added, "At the same time, these relentless attacks aim to plunder villages, violate human dignity, and destroy the culture of our Druze people. The rich and ancient culture of the Druze community is an integral part of Syria's mosaic heritage."

The Women's Protection Units offered their condolences to the families of the victims and added, "We consider these attacks a major threat to the building of a democratic Syria that works to protect the unity of all people and communities."

They continued, "For the sake of regional stability, our Druze people are resisting and resorting to their right to self-defense. Therefore, no problem can justify these brutal attacks."

The statement also addressed the honorable stance of Mother Fawzia Fakhreddine Al-Sharani, stating: "In the village of Al-Dour in Sweida Governorate, many victims lost their lives as a result of the ongoing violent attacks and clashes. The attackers also kidnapped a number of women. Among these women who were brutally assaulted, Mother Fawzia Fakhreddine Al-Sharani demonstrated an honorable stance, preserving her resolve and honor.

She defended her neighborhood and village against these brutal gangs. This rebellious, warrior woman, with intense anger, killed six gang members in the ongoing clashes, resisting until her last bullet."

continued: "This stance taken by this mother is a call to all components of the Syrian people, especially women, to protect themselves and organize themselves. Without legitimate self-defense, we cannot talk about a free, safe, and dignified life. We bow in reverence and honor to the immortal martyr Fawzia Fakhreddine Al-Sharani, and we remember her with all reverence and respect. Martyrs like Mother Fawzia illuminate our path and become our guide in our struggle for a democratic Syria."
