YPG affirms continued resistance, defense of humanitarian values on anniversary of Kobani victory

The People’s Protection Units (YPG) affirmed that the victory of Kobani was not merely a military achievement, but rather a revolution of will and steadfastness in the face of a project of darkness and terrorism. At a time when the city was besieged from all sides and had limited capabilities, it nevertheless possessed the determination to defend land and existence.

The eleventh anniversary of the victory of the resistance in the city of Kobani and the defeat of ISIS mercenaries marks a historic and pivotal moment—not only for the city itself, but for the peoples of the region and humanity as a whole, as it represented the beginning of the actual collapse of the terrorist organization.

In a statement, the People’s Protection Units noted that the Battle of Kobani shattered the myth of ISIS, which had promoted itself as an invincible force, and served as the first spark that paved the way for the liberation of vast cities and areas from its control.

It stressed that from the streets of Kobani, the first decisive blows against the organization were launched.

The General Command of the YPG recalled the sacrifices of the martyrs who gave their lives in defense of humanity and the values of freedom and dignity. Spokespersons emphasized that these sacrifices were not made in defense of a city alone, but in defense of the values of coexistence and the right of peoples to self-determination.

The statement also highlighted the prominent role of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), who embodied the meanings of heroism and sacrifice, as well as the pioneering role of women on the frontlines—sending a clear message in the face of the extremist mentality that ISIS mercenaries sought to impose.

Tributes were extended to the peoples of Rojava and other parts of Kurdistan, to Kurdish communities in Europe, and to all free forces around the world that stood by Kobani politically, humanitarianly, and through media support, considering that this solidarity confirmed the universal humanitarian character of the Battle of Kobani.

In conclusion, the statement warned that Kobani continues to face threats, siege, and repeated attacks in attempts to undermine the will of its people and their democratic experience. It reaffirmed the continuation of the struggle and legitimate self-defense, adherence to the path of resistance, and the building of a pluralistic democratic society that guarantees human dignity and freedom.
