Women's initiative to disseminate Ocalan's ideology

Leader Abdullah Ocalan, who was kidnapped in Imrali prison for 25 years, following an international conspiracy that began on October 9, 1998, and led to his kidnapping from the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, on February 15, 1999, is subjected to numerous legal and humanitarian violations.

Speaking on behalf of the Noon Freedom Ocalan Initiative, about the international conspiracy that is entering its 25th year and the violations committed against the leader Abdullah Ocalan, she confirmed to ANHA agency: “We, the women who believe in the thought of the international leader Abdullah Ocalan, will turn February 15, this fateful day, into the memory of an uprising to plant A seed of hope, and we renew our pledge to all adherents of leader Abdullah’s ideology that we will continue the march and struggle until the leader is liberated from Turkish prisons.”

Violations suffered by the leader

The initiative's spokeswoman and lawyer, Sawsan Shoman, mentioned the violations that leader Abdullah Ocalan was subjected to, "starting with the mock trial and his inability to defend himself," describing that trial as "a farce and a play prepared in advance."

She referred to what leader Abdullah Ocalan is now being subjected to in Imrali prison, where she said, "The law that is applied to Imrali, that island that is legally and geographically isolated, is different from the law of the Turkish state. It is a discretionary law, subject to the discretion and maliciousness of the Turkish authorities."

She explained that the absolute isolation imposed on Leader Abdullah Ocalan and the “disciplinary provisions” that have been implemented against him and prevented him from meeting his lawyer and family since 2021, are in violation of international laws and norms, especially the International Charter on Human Rights with regard to the political and social aspects, and in accordance with Article 11, which states that: “Every prisoner has the right to communicate with the outside world, and to see his lawyer and relatives,” but Turkey violates this article of the International Charter and rejects every time requests submitted by lawyers to see their client.

In another blatant violation committed by the Turkish authorities against the leader Abdullah Ocalan, which was highlighted by Sawsan Shoman, it was the leader’s exemption from the right to hope, which was issued by the European Court for those sentenced to life imprisonment.

Silence and complete absence of the Committee against Torture and human rights organizations

Regarding these violations, Sawsan Shoman criticized the European Committee against Torture (CPT), which visited Imrali in September 2022, and has not yet issued any statement regarding the leader’s situation and what he is exposed to inside the prison, and for not carrying out its work properly as an international organization sponsoring human rights.

It also mentioned the complete absence of human rights organizations regarding the legal violations committed against Leader Abdullah Ocalan, and the Turkish authorities’ violation of all international laws and covenants that Turkey has signed and is condemned for these violations.

Noon Initiative visit to the European Council

Regarding the presence of any developments regarding the visit conducted by the Noon Initiative to the European Council earlier last year, and its meeting with parliamentarians, the Cypriot Lawyers Committee, and the French Right-Left Bloc, and the refusal of the Committee against Torture to meet with the Initiative, Sawsan Shoman stated that there was great sympathy for the case of leader Ocalan by European parliamentarians, but at the same time they stressed that the leader's issue needs a political decision.

She attributed the reason for this to “the presence of capitalist and hegemonic countries that are not suitable for the thought of a leader to be born in the Middle East, but rather seek to keep the Middle East region a hotbed of fighting and sectarian score-settling. Therefore, they contributed to the disappearance of the leader Abdullah Ocalan, and are still playing their dirty game to date.” Its complicity and silence regarding the violations committed against leader Abdullah Ocalan.”

The Noon Initiative’s efforts to spread the leader’s thought more widely

According to its spokeswoman, the Noon Freedom Ocalan Initiative, which includes activists, politicians and researchers from various Middle Eastern countries, sought to spread the thought of Leader Abdullah Ocalan more widely among women by holding awareness sessions that addressed the most prominent topics raised by Leader Abdullah Ocalan regarding the issue of women’s liberation.

Sawsan Shoman added that the initiative cooperated with the Democratic Women’s Gathering in the Lebanese Bekaa region, and held a meeting for women there and explained the leader’s thought and the international conspiracy. She hopes to expand these activities in order to put pressure on the international community to take a political decision that does justice to the leader Abdullah Ocalan and achieves his physical freedom.

Sawsan Shoman explained that the women whom the initiative meets form the nucleus in their countries, where they create new groups in which they spread the leader’s ideas. She said: “We seek for each member of the initiative to be like a beehive in her region to attract the largest number of women in order to train them and inform them of the leader’s ideas.”
