women's initiative in Turkey calls for end to attacks on Rojava, opening of Kobani border crossing

The "I Need Peace" women's initiative arrived in the Suruç region to protest the attacks on Rojava. The women called on Turkish officials to cease supporting the mercenaries of the Syrian Interim Government and demanded the opening of the Kobani border crossing to facilitate access to Rojava, according to the Welat News Agency.

The "I Need Peace" women's initiative, which aims to counter the genocidal attacks on Rojava and support the popular resistance, set out from Turkish cities towards the Suruç region in Urfa. The initiative arrived in Suruç today and issued a statement in the town square.

Members of the initiative demanded the opening of the Mürşitpınar border crossing in Kobani.

The women chanted slogans such as "Long live the Rojava resistance," "Women's support transcends borders," "Women don't want war, they want peace," "Women live for freedom," "Martyrs never die," and "Rojava is Eastern Kurdistan, and Kurdistan is one."

Afterward, Ayşe Surjo, co-chair of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party in Urfa, spoke, thanking the women who had come from Turkish cities. She said, "The Kurdish people and their friends are standing up against the attacks. Our resistance to these attacks will continue until they stop."

"The border crossing must be opened."

The statement from 216 women's organizations supporting Rojava was then read. The statement was read by Hevda Yücekaya, a member of the Women's Defense Association, who demanded the opening of the border crossing to allow aid into Kobani. She expressed her demands as follows:

• The attacks on the Kurdish people and all other peoples of Syria must stop immediately.

• The siege of Kobani must be lifted, and the entry of supplies that meet basic needs must be guaranteed. The Turkish state can achieve this today by opening a corridor from here.

• The rights of the Kurds and other peoples in Syria must be recognized, and the attacks must stop.

• The war crimes committed against the people must end.

The statement concluded with chants.

Following the statement, the women held a sit-in and then entered the building of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party in Suruç, Northern Kurdistan.
