The Iraqi Initiative for Ocalan Freedom issued a statement to the public on the occasion of International Women's Day, stating:
"On March 8, the world celebrates International Women's Day, a day in which unfair practices towards women continue, as sexism in all its economic, social and political forms against women continues in a thousand forms in various parts of the world. Systematic injustice continues to be inflicted on women everywhere, even in so-called democratic States.

The world we live in is based on inequality, discrimination and gender injustice against women is one of its cornerstones, clearly revealing the nature of capitalist relations based on multiple patterns of exploitation, plunder, and transformation of man into a consumer being. The capitalist system cannot survive without class oppression and social division, which is clearly manifested in gender, racial, ethnic, religious, economic and political discrimination.
In Iraq, gender discrimination against women is most egregious. The currents of power seek with all their capabilities to transform religion in society, which leads to a societal rift on a sectarian and national basis, which leads to the consolidation of the authority of a group that subsists on society. They legislate laws that degrade women under pretexts that have no societal and moral basis.

leader Ocalan's call to stop the military solution to resolve the Kurdish issue and shift to political struggle was a historic step to resolve all the issues plaguing the region in general, while at the same time stopping the decades-long bloodbath in absurd and unwinnable wars. We appreciate this call, which is a step in the process of societal integration among all peoples, cultures and religions, on the basis that everyone is with all and not vice versa as desired by the powers benefiting from wars.

We are women from Iraq and through the initiative of leader Ocalan, which symbolizes freedom and peace, and on the occasion of International Women's Day, we congratulate this occasion to leader Ocalan, who worked on women's freedom, and considered the success of any revolution and the building of any society directly linked to women's freedom. It is a clear message to all peoples and societies who love coexistence on the basis of fraternity of peoples, complementarity and a life of equality between men and women. We declare our solidarity with leader Ocalan in order to end the restrictions imposed on him and to release him completely, after 26 years of intellectual persecution, abstraction and strict isolation imposed on him."
