Within framework of voluntary return initiative, 58 families leave Arisha camp to Deir ez-Zor

In a new step within the efforts of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the NE Syria to facilitate the return of the displaced to their areas of origin, 58 families from the residents of Al-Arisha camp, south of Hasaka, left to the city of Deir ez-Zor.
These are the first voluntary return trips organized after the Autonomous Administration launched the voluntary return initiative for IDPs on January 23, 2025.
The batch that left the camp included 305 people, distributed among 58 families, from Deir ez-Zor city. The buses were operated by the camp administration, in coordination with the concerned authorities, to ensure a safe return of families to their areas of origin.

According to the administrator in the Al-Arisha camp, Mohammed Bashir, the camp administration has allowed the freedom of voluntary return for those wishing since the establishment of the camp, but security concerns are still an obstacle for some families to make the decision to return, especially in light of the security tensions and violations that have been recorded in some areas of Syria.
Bashir said: "We have worked to provide all facilities for families who wish to return, but there is a state of fear among the displaced to return to their areas due to the recent events inside Syria and the violations that took place there. However, we affirm that voluntary repatriation is the right of every individual, and we continue to provide the necessary support to those who decide to return."
Located 25 km south of the city of Hasaka, Al-Arisha camp is one of the largest camps in the region, housing nearly 14,000 people in about 2,700 families, most of them from Deir ez-Zor and other areas of Syria that have witnessed waves of displacement over the past years.
